- Chianti Colli Fiorentini Rosso Riserva
South-east of Florence, on the hills between Chianti and Valdarno, there lies this beautiful estate of about 200 hectares in size.
Historical evidence about an early settlement in the area dates back to 1066. In the Middle Ages, the castle was razed to the ground except for the tower, and it was rebuilt in the following centuries.
The current appearance of the buildings is due to the reconstruction and restoration works carried out by a historical Florentine family in the mid-19th century. However, it is believed that the cellars – which appear in ancient images of the estate – were built before the 17th century; and as such, they pre-date the construction of the villa itself.
In the following decades, the castle and the estate passed from hand to hand among different noble families – until 1935, when they were purchased by the current owners.
During World War II, the villa was first under German control, then under English control. The cellars sheltered several works by Michelangelo and Donatello, which is probably the main reason why the building was spared from the bombings. After the War, the owners regained possession of the villa and began the restoration.
The current generation runs the property with a passion not only for wine production but also for tourism. Visitors from across the globe have the opportunity to taste some of the finest Tuscan wines, surrounded by the beauty of the Florentine countryside.
The estate’s vineyards cover about 20 hectares at an altitude between 300 and 370 meters above sea level.
The grape varieties are Sangiovese, Colorino, Merlot, Trebbiano Toscano, and Malvasia Bianca, which become fine Tuscan wines such as Chianti Colli Fiorentini, Rosso di Toscana IGT, and more.
