On a hill just south of Florence, there lies this splendid Renaissance villa, famous for being one of the country abodes of the Medici family.

The history of the villa dates back to the beginning of the 11th century when the original tower served as a lookout post thanks to its strategic position. In the following centuries, the buildings surrounding the tower were enlarged and passed from hand to hand among various noble Florentine families until, in the mid-1600s, the estate was bought by Grand Duke Ferdinando II de' Medici who made it even more magnificent with the addition of statues, fountains and typical Renaissance terraced gardens.

Thus transformed from a simple farm into a sumptuous country residence, the villa was purchased by the family of the current owners at the beginning of the 19th century.

Still apparent today in the sumptuous baroque decorations, in the private Medici chapel, and in the two spiral staircases of the inner courtyard, that luxury is matched by finely preserved, typically rural elements such as the old raised granary, the lemon house, and the oil cellar.

With their competence and passion, the current owners have managed to make the most of the enological potential of the wine estate, which produces highly-regarded Tuscan red wines (including the outstanding Chianti Colli Fiorentini Riserva) from 40 hectares of top-quality vineyards, mostly planted with the Sangiovese variety.

There are two cellars: the historic aging cellar below the villa, and a modern storage cellar built in the 1970s.

Just as important is the production of Chianti Classico extra virgin olive oil from olives harvested entirely by hand and cold-pressed within 24 hours of harvesting.
